How Does McDonald's Stay in Business?

 

I read here on Quad-Cities Cuisine that Mickey D’s in North Florence was having trouble with staff due to illness and maybe just plain laziness, but everything looked open today when I left work early. The drive-thru line was long, but at least moving, so I gave it a try.

The sign said two McRibs for $6.00. I could handle that, but apparently the store couldn’t. Why? They were out of sauce and not able to sell any until a truck arrived. I didn’t ask when that would be, but ordered something else and a Coke.

No Coke. The soft drink machine was down and the person who took my order had no idea when it would be repaired. I decided on a milkshake, but guess what? If I wanted anything to drink it would be water, coffee, orange juice, or milk. I passed.

I had a hard time paying and getting my order. There were some drive offs and no one knew what orders needed to be filled. When I got home, my plain sandwich was loaded with things I didn’t want, like pickle and lettuce.

How does this place stay in business? I guess location is half the attraction, but as bad as Taco Bell can be, it’s still a much better choice when visiting Seven-Points.

McDonald's at Seven-Points Closing for Flu

 

McDonald's at Seven Points in North Florence has always kept the wonkiest hours. Since I got off early today I decided to run by Mickey D's for a McRib. After all, the fast food company is calling this a farewell tour, but they've done that before. Just in case I want to get my fill while it's here.

First I couldn't even get in the parking lot on the Wills Avenue side but I thought it was just late school traffic. I decided to visit the dining room, so I drove around and parked on the Wood Avenue side. No such luck in getting any food that way, the dining room was closed.

As I left to walk back to my car I met a friend who told me the restaurant was partially closed due to the flu and that the drive-thru was also expected to shut down for a few days. This could change, but if you're in a hurry you might want to scratch this McDonald's off your list.

McDonald's - North Florence

It was sad to lose North Florence local color when McDonald's took up residence at the Seven Points intersection. The golden arches seemed a poor replacement for the quaint giraffe building that had stood there for years. The restaurant is always busy, but I've never been sure it was a really good neighbor.

I'm writing this review from a booth while eating. I've been here about 15 minutes in some very strange circumstances. The air conditioning is broken; since I've been here an employee has reportedly walked out, as in quit, over the working conditions. An employee behind the counter said it was the fourth worker today to walk out. I saw two managers chase the wayward employee into the parking lot. Two days ago, part of the ceiling had fallen in after the thaw. Buckets were in booth seats to hold the water, some of which splashed onto the tables.

All in all, the food is standard Mickey D's fare. The health rating is in the upper range. Yet there is always drama at this restaurant. If you want a quiet place to have a quick meal before heading to work or home, this isn't it! If you like the drama, I highly recommend it.
