If you haven't visited this location of Southern Barbecue in some time, there's good news and bad news. The good news is the small restaurant on Wilson Dam Road now has extra parking in the lot immediately to the south of the eatery. The bad news is the wait time for an order remains exceptionally long. Considering the number of employees roaming around behind the counter and in the kitchen, this is somewhat surprising.

It's a good idea to call in your order in advance if you're in a hurry, especially around lunch and dinner hours. Also, the seating remains limited inside--there are a few seats outside for those who don't mind the elements. Expect to rub elbows with other customers; there's no way to avoid it.

The food is generally consistent with other Southern franchises, but the Muscle Shoals menu has offered up a new item this winter--a turkey sandwich. The turkey is served with white sauce and is delicious. If you like turkey you don't want to pass up this menu item.

Don't expect white table clothes or fancy flatware, but if barbecue is your thing, give Southern a try.
